Items to be appraised include jewelry, fine art (paintings, fine photographs, prints); furniture (large pieces can be appraised from photos from different angles); decorative arts (porcelain, textiles, ceramic, wood, silver); military artifacts and toy soldiers (no guns or weapons); and coins. Youthful collectors of comics, cards, and toys are also encouraged to bring their favorites to be appriased. The Historical Society will have a few of the interesting artifacts from its collection on display and will also feature a table for collectors to “show and tell” what, how, and why they collect what they do.

Admission is $10 per person and includes all talks and one free appraisal per ticket; (Historical Society members receive two free appraisals with each admission). Additional appraisals can be purchased for $10 each. A special rate of $15 per family (children must be accompanied by at least one parent) will be offered if all family members arrive at the same time. Anyone who becomes a Historical Society member on Feb. 28 will receive a second appraisal for free, a $10 savings.

Given the time required for each appraisal, pre-registration is suggested but not required. Register online at www.oprfhistory.org or call (708) 848-6755.

Events sponsors include Forest Agency Insurance Inc. and Frame Warehouse. All proceeds benefit the Historical Society of Oak Park and River Forest, a not-for-profit community organization.
